LOCATION

The Asher Durand Suite is located on the northwest corner of the first floor and provides facilities adapted to the needs of guests with limited mobility. The Durand Room’s west-facing bay windows afford views on the front lawn and a half-circle flower garden, and a large hedge screens the view from village street traffic.

FURNISHINGS

The room is equipped with a queen-size bed, ensuite bathroom and private closet. Furnishings include a hand-crafted, Amish bed in Ebersole style made of native cherry, a reading and writing table, two side chairs, a console table, night stands, and multiple lamps. Oriental rugs highlight the refinished, original knotty pine floors.  The ensuite closet offers luggage racks, storage boxes and hangers for guest belongings.

COLOR PALETTE

The suite’s centerpiece is Durand’s painting “Mountain Vista,” recalling the cliffs of the nearby Shawangunk Range. The room’s color palette borrows from the canvas’s understated hues of lavender, eggplant, and brown. Textiles and rugs complement this paint scheme.

BATHROOM

The private bathroom is outfitted to accommodate guests with limited mobility, including a roll-in shower threshold, grab bars inside the shower, grab bars at the toilet, and a wheelchair-accessible sink.  Bathed in warm, neutral shades of cream, beige, and gray, the Durand bathroom features patterned Italian tile floors, subway-tiled showers, granite-topped sinks, white porcelain fixtures, and chrome accessories. The bathroom is also equipped with a powerful, but quiet, ventilation unit and offers a fully operable window.

INFRASTRUCTURE

The Durand Suite is tied into the recently installed HVAC system on the first floor.   New windows in period style are fully operable and introduce exterior light and fresh air into the suite’s environment, according to guests’ preferences.   The room also features a multi-speed ceiling fan.  The suite provides guests with abundant electrical outlets and includes a charging block for electronic devices.  Robust WiFi is available in the Durand Suite and in all public rooms, while cable connectors and ethernet ports support flat-screen TV service in several public rooms on the first and third floors.

The Sanford Gifford Suite is located on the southeast corner of the second floor with four windows bathing the room with sunlight throughout the day.   The east-facing windows afford panoramic views over the village center, the Hudson River, eastern river hills, and the Taconic Mountains in the distance.  Our largest suite offers a king-size bed, an ensuite bathroom, and a private closet.

Bedroom furnishings include a hand-crafted Amish sleigh bed in native cherry, a drop-leaf reading and writing table, two side chairs, a console table, and multiple lamps. Oriental rugs highlight the refinished, original knotty pine floors.  The ensuite closet is stocked with luggage racks, storage boxes, and clothing hangers.  Extra amenities include a hair dryer, extra pillows, and a down comforter.

COLOR PALETTE

The painterly landscape is Gifford’s river-edge perspective entitled “Marshes of the Hudson, ” which evokes the late fall atmosphere of the current nature sanctuary at Constitution Marsh opposite West Point Military Academy.    The painting’s color palette of season-ending yellows and golds, along with touches of burgundy and russet, is echoed in the yellow walls, claret rugs, and autumnal-shaded textiles used for window swags, chair seats, and decorative pillows.

The Gifford Suite is equipped with a Mitsubishi ductless unit affording individual guest control of the heating and cooling system; air circulation is further supplemented by a ceiling fan.  Four new windows in period style are fully operable and introduce lots of exterior light and fresh air into the bedroom environment.  The upgraded electrical system provides ample outlets and also includes a charging block for electronic devices.  Robust WiFI is available ensuite and in all public rooms; additionally, cable connectors and ethernet ports support flat-screen TV service in several shared spaces on the first and third floors.

The George Inness Suite is located on the northeast corner of the second floor with east-facing windows that look down to the B&B’s formal garden and village center and, at a higher plane, to the Hudson River and Taconic Mountains in the distance.  The room is beautifully bathed in soft morning light.  The suite is equipped with a queen-size bed, an ensuite bathroom, and a private closet.

Bedroom furnishings include a hand-crafted, maple bed in Shaker style made by Amish craftsmen, a reading and writing table, two side chairs, a console table, and multiple lamps.  Hand-knotted rugs highlight the refinished, original knotty pine floors.  The ensuite closet is stocked with luggage racks, storage boxes, and clothing hangers.  Extra amenities include a hair dryer, extra pillows, and a down comforter.

COLOR PALETTE

The focal point for the bedroom is a locally inspired scene entitled “Pond at Milton-on-the-Hudson” painted by George Inness in the early 1880s at his nearby summer studio.  The spring landscape of fruit trees in bloom highlights shades of lavender, purple, and cream, whose colorations are further complemented by fabrics and rugs assembled to enhance the spring-time atmosphere of the suite.

The suite derives its name from Whittredge’s “Fisherman’s Windlass,” which offers the artist’s bucolic fall meditation on 19th century fishing activities near Tivoli Bay. Bedroom walls are bathed in soft shades of orange, and the overall décor echoes the pumpkin, russet, and mushroom coloration of the painting. Textiles and rugs enhance these autumnal tones.

The John Kensett Suite is located on the southwest corner of the second floor directly above the front porch.  From its three windows the room affords perspectives on the side yard, the landscaped entry drive, and front hedges. The orientation of the windows allows plenty of sunshine to flood into the bedroom throughout the day and especially shows off the western sky at sunset.  The room’s configuration includes two extra-long twin beds, an ensuite bathroom, and a private closet.

FURNISHINGS

Bedroom furnishings include Dover-style oak beds hand-made by Amish craftsmen, a shared night stand, two side chairs, a tilt-top reading table, a console table, and multiple lamps.  Oriental rugs highlight the refinished, original knotty pine floors.   The ensuite closet supplies multiple luggage racks, storage boxes, and clothing hangers for guest belongings.  Additional amenities include a hair dryer, extra pillows, and down comforters.

COLOR PALETTE

The anchoring painting for the Kensett Suite is the artist’s mid 19th century rendering of a summer idyll at Bash Bish Falls in the Taconic Range near the New York – Massachusetts border.  Borrowing from the landscape painting’s palette, the room’s decor accents pastoral hues of soft greens, yellows, and creams, which not only are echoed in wall treatments, but also are cheerfully represented in fabrics chosen for window scarves, pillows, and chair upholstery.

Without access to an exterior wall, the Kensett bathroom cleverly exploits transom windows to carry indirect light into the environment.  Like the other suite bathrooms, it is well equipped with custom, high-quality fixtures, including a walk-in shower, sink, and toilet, as well as multiple bars and racks for hanging and displaying bathroom amenities.   Designed in warm neutral shades of ivory, gray, and beige, the bath decor features surface coverings in clean, understated hues, including patterned Italian tile floors, subway-tiled shower walls, granite sink countertops, white porcelain fixtures, and chrome accessories.  Similar to other second-floor bathrooms, the Kensett bath is outfitted with a supplemental energy-boost heater and a powerful, but quiet, ventilation system.
