Throughout their stay at Danskammer House, guests are invited to use the inn’s multiple indoor spaces where guests may congregate. Before or after breakfast, the Downing Breakfast Room invites guests to linger with a cup of coffee or tea, to enjoy the early morning light that floods this space, or to gaze upon our landscaped patio, gardens, and terraces just outside, constantly changing with the seasons. On the first floor, one can sit quietly with a Hudson Valley picture book or history volume in one of the handsome Queen Anne chairs or the Victorian sofa in the Dutch-inspired Lane Living Room with its transformed 19th century coal-burning fireplace.  One might also roam the Cropsey Dining Room filled with old furnishings and framed by large bay windows and contemplate returning here at the end of day of tourist adventures for a relaxing cup of tea or glass of wine by the fireplace.

Or climb the stairs to the top level of the old house, where the former attic has been converted into the Church Lounge, an expansive open space with panoramic views out to village rooftops and the Hudson River in the foreground, rolling hills and vales of Dutchess County at the middle distance, and Taconic Mountains on the far horizon. The lounge is a great place to watch an early morning sunrise or to observe the deepening colors of nightfall reflected across the sky. From that observation post, guests can search for barges on the river, espy commuter trains speeding along the Hudson shoreline, or occasionally glimpse returning eagles and hawks who drift by, as they ride brisk river currents. The Church Lounge wine and coffee bar offers all the necessary glassware for guests to relax with traveling companions after returning from a day of tasting wines, ciders, or spirits. Comfortable window benches, club chairs, and recliners encourage guests to linger with books and games available on our library shelves or listen to musical CD discovered the night before at the nearby Falcon music hall. A larger flat-screen TV also provides access to cable channels and Netflix options.
