INN AMENITIES
Outdoor Public Spaces
In any season, guests are encouraged to go outdoors and inspect our vegetable gardens, berry patches, small fruit orchard, grape vines, herb garden, and cottage floral beds. Danskammer’s landscapes follow the cycle of seasons: daffodils, tulips, redbud, and dogwood in spring; followed by creamy white hydrangeas and phlox contrasting with purple delphiniums and verbena in summer; then the yellows, oranges, reds of zinnias, achillea, chrysanthemums, and sap-receding maple leaves in fall; followed by winter’s mantle of snow coating the brown branches of dormant perennials in stark contrast to red-twigged dogwoods and the white-barked sycamores lining the nearby Old Man’s Kill.
In fairer months, the west-facing front porch is bedecked with comfortable rocking chairs and settees surrounded by porch plants, where guests can sit with a drink at day’s end and watch the fading rays of sun on a warm summer or autumn evening. Or stroll around to the east side of the B&B to the rear patio, where, under the shade of sun umbrellas, guests can ponder the changing patterns of sunlight on Danskammer’s lawns and gardens. And if visitors poke far enough, they will discover our orchard and berry patches adjoining the lower terrace and its fire pit where visitors can sit in Adirondack-style chairs and be mesmerized after dark by the glowing flames of a fire laid with dried logs from the adjacent wood shed.
