LOCATION

The John Kensett Suite is located on the southwest corner of the second floor directly above the front porch.  From its three windows the room affords perspectives on the side yard, the landscaped entry drive, and front hedges. The orientation of the windows allows plenty of sunshine to flood into the bedroom throughout the day and especially shows off the western sky at sunset.  The room’s configuration includes two extra-long twin beds, an ensuite bathroom, and a private closet.

FURNISHINGS

Bedroom furnishings include Dover-style oak beds hand-made by Amish craftsmen, a shared night stand, two side chairs, a tilt-top reading table, a console table, and multiple lamps.  Oriental rugs highlight the refinished, original knotty pine floors.   The ensuite closet supplies multiple luggage racks, storage boxes, and clothing hangers for guest belongings.  Additional amenities include a hair dryer, extra pillows, and down comforters.

COLOR PALETTE

The anchoring painting for the Kensett Suite is the artist’s mid 19th century rendering of a summer idyll at Bash Bish Falls in the Taconic Range near the New York – Massachusetts border.  Borrowing from the landscape painting’s palette, the room’s decor accents pastoral hues of soft greens, yellows, and creams, which not only are echoed in wall treatments, but also are cheerfully represented in fabrics chosen for window scarves, pillows, and chair upholstery.

BATHROOM

Without access to an exterior wall, the Kensett bathroom cleverly exploits transom windows to carry indirect light into the environment.  Like the other suite bathrooms, it is well equipped with custom, high-quality fixtures, including a walk-in shower, sink, and toilet, as well as multiple bars and racks for hanging and displaying bathroom amenities.   Designed in warm neutral shades of ivory, gray, and beige, the bath decor features surface coverings in clean, understated hues, including patterned Italian tile floors, subway-tiled shower walls, granite sink countertops, white porcelain fixtures, and chrome accessories.  Similar to other second-floor bathrooms, the Kensett bath is outfitted with a supplemental energy-boost heater and a powerful, but quiet, ventilation system.

INFRASTRUCTURE

The Kensett Suite is equipped with a Mitsubishi ductless unit affording individual guest control of the heating and cooling system, with a ceiling fan providing additional air circulation.  Three new windows in period style are fully operable and introduce lots of exterior light and fresh air into the bedroom environment.  The upgraded electrical system provides ample outlets and also includes a charging block for electronic devices.  Robust WiFI is available ensuite and in all public rooms; in addition, cable connectors and ethernet ports support flat-screen TV service in several shared spaces on the first and third floors.
